The third piece available to be purchased this evening from my getting-to-be-too-large stock of insulators is a strange Canadian piece which I have heard fittingly dubbed the "hamburger", due to it's unusual shape. I'm listening to ABBA as I type this. It occurs to me how this insulator, and the odd Swedish pop group are, in a number of ways, similar. Of course, they are both odd, and secondly, it seems no one really appreciates or talks about them any more. This is sad on both counts. In my 5 years of collecting I've come to possess a grand total of 4 of these - rather sad considering they were used in this area. The lack of saddle groove, the excess skirts, and the extended inner skirt make this a very unusual porcelain insulator. From the first time I came to acquire one from a local antique store, I was hooked on their many idiosyncrasies. The piece which I am praising so is an unmarked U-336 attributed to Canadian Porcelain. It's glaze is not unusual in any respect, as it's of newer Canadian Porcelain manufacture, but... well, do I have to say it again? It's weird. I'm asking $5 U.S. plus shipping for this unusual opaque gem. I accept personal cheques from any member of ICON, or from anyone I've dealt with in the past. All the best! |
