I did a little editing to lighten this image in a effort to show the incredible mishmash of construction going on on this pole. From sloppy ties to hot taps to crimp fittings, this pole has got a lot of history piled up like a bad tangle of wire! The left insulator appears to be either a California 162 in aqua, or a Star of that same profile. Note the large dome chip ! The clear guy could be either Hemi or Maydwell, but I suspect it might lean Maydwell, given this is shot in San Francisco. The white mud cable .... ? Pretty sure that is an yet-to-be-discovered milkglass McLaughlin. Get a look at the larger picture : [id=156300296] Note the use of inline strains, ... a type of build rarely seen anymore. When I moved to Spokane, this was common, even using glass J-balls, but one can look hard to find this kind of thing now. The one shooting off to the left of the 162 is an odd little dude. Also, the pipe tacked under the crossarm, carrying those jumper wires is pretty crazy too. In the up close shot you can really see how sloppy all this stuff is. Sure looks neat when compared to sterile modern uniformity. |
