Measurements: 3.75" tall x 5.5" diameter at widest point, about 3.63" diameter at base, and pinhole measures 1.25" dia x 2.38" deep. A lot of time researching and tracking down an area lineman led to this interesting find. Just picked up 3 of these from a NY state area lineman who had stashed away some unusual insulators he has kept over the years. Other than a Pyrex carnival power piece, this big porcelin "door knob" were the only interesting insulators he had. He had explained to me he was assigned to some powerline work outside of Rochester, New York and noticed these odd looking ceramic insulators laying in the woods several feet away from the powerline right of way. One can see in the close-ups of the pin hole, a granular quartz-like substance was cemented inside to help attach it to the threads of a pin, or possibly a multipart attachment. He had mentioned he had worked nearby the Victor Insulator plant, and this could have possibly been an unfinished model by Victor. What its use could have been for is a mystery to either of us. Sure is a strange one. Anyone have any clues to its identification, use, etc ???
