Kyle & I had the opportunity to get out for a bit of a hike this past Friday. I say hike, as opposed to 'hunt', as the particular stretch of CN track we were 'hiking' along, more closely resembles the middle-of-nowhere terrain you'd associate with a turn-of-the-century rural powerline, with Locke porcelain multis, than it does a stretch of CN line around here. There's a river, lots of trees, lots of rocks, wild animals, no houses in sight, and a 45 degree embankment up 50 feet of grade to get to the tracks above. As an added bonus - the entire embankment is covered in rocks, rendering any effort to scale the mighty beast absolutely pointless.

However, the benefit to 'hiking' in such terrain is that not many before you have dared to do the same thing, so some good items can be found.

This is my second time 'hiking' this stretch. The 143 shown is in two pieces, obviously. The interesting part is that the skirt segment was found (by myself) 4 years ago when I first hunted this stretch, and the dome segment was found just two days ago, by Kyle. This would be only the second G.N.W. 143 I have found [id=150377951;more-or-less intact], and with thanks to Kyle! A scarce chunk of glass almost 130 years old makes absolutely any hunting effort, which doesn't result in death, well worth your while.

Get out and hike!
