On a hunt last summer we were using my GPS unit to find an old line that was taken down decades ago. I calculated the average distances between a few of the pole stumps still visible and then we just estimated our way through the desert. At one of the possible pole stops, I spotted half of a purple Cal skirt. Then on the other side of my four-wheeler was the other half of the skirt. I put them together and immediately thought that it was a California 40. I was so excited but we couldn't find any more pieces. Just for the heck of it, my mom decided to scratch around with her rake and out popped the crosstop!! We were speachless and excited beyond belief. We never would have guessed to find a Purple Cal Crosstop in the middle of the Utah Desert. The reason that this is a full inch shorter than the normal crosstops is because we are missing the wire groove. I marked the location of the find in my GPS and we will definitely be making a return trip this summer to try and find the rest. |
