Very nice (and rare) Russian piece, no assigned CD yet, rich emerald green, with very bold and clear - and decorative - embossing, the Cyrillic letters are D.B.Z.ДБЗ №1. Most likely pre-1917 vintage. Interesting little "spearpoints" on each side. "№1." embossed on the back skirt. I replaced the original photo with this one, no camera straps in the way ;-) Update, 9/12/06: I now have its "baby brother" in aqua. Not quite so boldly embossed, but still very nice. Same style fromt embossing, and "№6" on the rear skirt.

There are at least five known versions (and sizes) of this insulator family, ДБЗ №1 ; ДБЗ №2 ; ДБЗ №6 ;ДБЗ №9, and ДБЗ №12 These were produced in emerald green and aqua glass.

Update July 4, 2010:

It is now known (many thanks to Chris Tella) that the embossing D.B.Z.ДБЗ №1 stands for Donetsk Bottle Factory (Donetsk Butilka Zavod), which was located in Donetsk, Ukraine, also known for its coal mining and other heavy industry.

The aqua glass one on the right: [id=177066982] embossed ДБЗ, №6

A green ДБЗ №2 is shown here [id=276443474]

A ДБЗ №1 and №2 can be seen, together, here: [id=276435895]
