This photo was taken in Durango, Colorado before trucks displaced horse delivery. It shows some interesting construction techniques common to early day telephone lines. Note the lead runs OVER the buildings, rather than along the street. Also clearly shown is the method of doing line drops using an "exchange" insulator, dropping the service wire right off the line wire. This is why insulators such as Hemi No.8's, kegs, and CD 115's were made.
