Here in Colorado, the interstates often follow railroad routes, and Interstate 25 is no exception. From Pueblo to Denver, the railroad often does not leave the view, ducking into downtown Colorado Springs, and ducking into the power plants that are scattered around the area. The poles tell me that D&RGW was the original owner with General William Palmer himself ordering this section be built in the 1870s-1880s as he attempted to build south to Mexico. He only got as far as Santa Fe to the south, with that being this rail-line's destination. His company however was the only railroad that went throguh the Rocky Mountains, NOT around them. His railroad made it as far west as Salt lake City, UT, as far north as Denver, and as far south as Santa Fe, NM. The only section that comes to mind as Abandoned these days is the currently Union Pacific-owned Tennessee Pass route. It was abandoned 1997. It is very good insulator hunting. |
