I decided this weekend to explore an area where the rail crews have been installing a couple of side-grades for the local CP line. They had scraped a large quantity of dirt off the surface of the ground, and in the process had cut into an abankment along the tracks. This embankment turned out to be an old railroad dump. You see, this track work is being done in an area that was once the site of the old Mount Brydges railroad station. With the help of my Mom & Dad, I managed to turn up around 50 bottles in two days of digging, and 1 1/2 insulators. The dump dates from around 1890-1920. You'd think there'd be some purple withycombes in there somewhere! The insulators found were a large piece of an N.E.G.M.CO. CD 145 in aqua, and an intact DOMINION - 42 (in the upper layer of dump dating from the 1950s). We'll be going back - so I'll keep you posted if a withycombe cache comes out in the next couple weeks! I wish... |
