This pole still remains as part of a small (6 span) branch in the Northern Electric Company's system. There are few cross arm mounted transformers left in Flin Flon. All are in Northern Electric's system since Manitoba Hydro did a citywide repacment of all of theirs 3 years ago. Northern Electric is owned by the mine and is only interested in servicing mine buildings. They originally built Flin Flon in 1927, but gave up all the distribution in the city to Manitoba Hydro in 1972 leading to a massive citywide rebuild in 73. This branch is the only one not feeding a mine building and is used to feed a skating rink and some city maintenance buildings. Manitoba Hydro is now taking over this line, and instead of using these old structures (see next two photos), they are choosing to build a new branch off of their system. |
