As requested, here is a comparison pic of a "West Virginia" style bullet (left) with a "Wormser" style bullet (right). I apologize for the poor quality of the W.V. bullet, but it's the best I can do at the moment. The height of the dome, measuring from the center of the wire groove is about equal on both. There's about a 1/16" variance in width of the lower dome at the upper wire ridge, with the Wormser being the widest. Measurements on another base/skirt specimen of a cranberry colored W.V. bullet put it at the same diameter as the Wormser. Both the Wormser and the W.V.s were produced in three-piece button type molds. The wire groove area displays the widest variance in the two styles, with the W.V. bullet having a tighter groove and more rounded upper wire ridge. These comparisons were made against one Wormser bullet only, and I know factually from handling several in past years that there are variations in Wormser molds. |
