A special form is used to give the hot glass the rounded shape of a marble. The glass is rolled back and forth as the form is brought around to form the shape. Just before the marble if fully formed, a small whisp of glass still attaches to the cylinder. As it slightly cools, it allows the glassmaker to snap the marble off of the cylinder. This leaves a small mark on the marble which is finished off in a few more steps.
