A couple of NEGM CD 267s that were in attendance at tye YPCIC show in Milford Mass. These were most likely used at one time on the Massachusetts Transit Authority (MTA) "Orange Line" portion of the Boston Subway system, on the elevated tracks that travelled through Roxbury and other points south of Boston. The "EL" was taken down in the late 1970s / early 1980s. The saddle grooves carried the thick and heavy 600 Volts DC power cables that fed the subway system's "third rail" which in turn powered the subway cars.

This is the very same MTA that the Kingston Trio made "famous" with their song "Charlie on the MTA" in the late 1950s. Older propulsion systems used DC motors and banks of resistors to control the speed. Newer systems took the 600VDC and used solid state inverters to generate a variable rate AC power for the motors, and offered better and more power-efficient speed control.

These and the "straight sides" 267.5s were principally used on the eleveted portions of the "Orange Line" . There were also porcelain insulators which supported the 600VDC power cables.

The Jumbos CD 140 and 269 were mostly used in the underground portions of the subway system.
