A terrible curiosity has bestown us all! Shown is the multipart which Kyle and I (Kyle, more specifically) discovered under a well-worn hydro utility pole along the side of a local rail line today. The difficult part in obtaining it was the fact that it was stuck upside down in the remains of an even more well-worn deer which had a flop date with the front end of a locomotive. The piece is a beautiful, mottled medium tan coloured glaze, with reddish highlights; it looks like an Ohio Brass or Canadian Porcelain piece. It's dimensions are approximately 8 3/4" wide at the upper shell, by 5 1/2" tall. Even upon cleaning the thing, it took several minutes to find any kind of marking, until Kyle suddenly enthusiastically cried out that it read [id=127266998;"A.F."] on the underside of the shell. Neither of us have ever heard of the marking, and there is no sign of any "A.F." pieces in the value guide for multi and unipart porcelain pintype insulators which I recently purchased. Our speculation is that it is either Canadian, and therefore considered foreign and not listed in the guide, or it's just not known? The latter would be nice. Anyone ever heard of "A.F."? Please let us know anything about it you may happen to know! |
