161 Kv transmission is on wood/steel poles, and lattice towers. 14,400 AC is carried on a minimum of 477 MCM ACSR, on large uni-parts that resemble small multiparts... Most of the town is wired 14.4/24.4Kv Wye.

The lines follow the "tree" pattern, meaning that they all branch out from ~1000MCM feeders near the substations. Smyrna has several substations, each is fed with a 161 KV feed. TVA apparently thought ahead when they built the system here.

Smyrna & La Vergne are among the fastest growing cities in Middle Tennessee, necessitating MTEMC and TVA to constantly upgrade lines in their territory. This area is also subject to a massive upgrade by TVA. That upgrade project is scheduled to be completed later this winter, [2011-2012] which involves running a few more 161 & 500Kv lines, adding substations and switchyards.

Update: 9/3/11: After further review, the uniparts are type U-880-A... Most of them are NGK or LAPP branded in MTEMC's area, with myself owning a U-880A skytone NGK in 1999. It was found in my school's parking area on the ground upside down.
