Here is a picture of the what the ground surface looks like-- lots of broken items. First you have a major earthquake and fire, which trashes everything. Next the debris is loaded on wagons and other conveyances that breaks up more stuff and its transported to San Jose where it is dumped in a pit. The stuff is burned and overlaid with clean fill and compacted. Nearly 100 years later, the burnt debris is dug up by backhoes and scattered about with graders. Its a miracle if anything survived intact. I think most bottle diggers have avoided the site because the potential rewards to effort expended is too low. Next picture [id=122177614]
