From what my friend Joe M tells me, green porcelain cutout boxes were used to either shunt out the mid-sections of series street lighting circuits (to identify open faults) and also at locations where the high voltage circuits would leave the series current regulator. The green color of the cutout box was an identifier especially among other gear in a substation and on a distribution pole. This example was made by Kearney, probably about 1960.
