Here is one more photo of Joe Maurath's outdoor display line (functional, as you already know!) during the height of our Blizzard of 2005 here in the Boston area. This is Joe's junction pole behind his house where all of his communications and vintage street light circuits come together and are thus controlled. Please note... this is looking at the same pole but from the other side as shown in one of my earlier submissions here. Also...the clearly seen rectangular box on the top crossarm contains the 50 watt mercury lamp ballast that powers the vintage mercury street light on the far left. Since transformers and ballasts generate heat, they hardly accumulate any snow or ice upon their enclosures. Therefore being thermally warm, the mercury lamp ballast shown is devoid of snow or ice unlike everything else on the pole! With the snow nearly three feet deep, this picture was indeed difficult for me to take! Truly hard to imagine since I have easily walked along the same walkway many times the summer! For now it is still cold here in Massachusetts with more snow in the forecast! Brrrrrrr!! |
