Yet, another shot of one of Joe's pole line tributes to yesterday Americana. The street light on this one dates back to around 1949-1951 and sports a clear low-wattage mercury lamp in it. The fixture was among the first that Westinghouse developed back then specifically for mercury vapor street lighting. The cutouts on the upper crossarm (seen with the reflective markers on them) are functional and fuse the "branches" of his street lighting circuit that traverse the perimeter of his big backyard. They also provide for safe disconnecting when he is working on the wires. This pole is right behind his house and is where everything "comes together" and then "disperses" among his open wire menagerie. |
