Joe M's Street Light Display After Blizzard

Here is another view of Joe's vintage street light display right after our blizzard! I nearly "drowned" in snow getting from one end of his display area to the other, which is less than a hundred feet! Anyway, this is what these lights look like (and probably did in service years ago with wicked snowfalls of the early days!). All of these lights are simply on "display" and none have power connected to them. A few of Joe's favorites here are the mercury vapor ones which were produced by Westinghouse and GE. These employed the "then new" 400W mercury lamps and these light fixtures became commercially available between 1947-1950. These light fixtures had a separate ballast and photo control. Mercury vapor roadway lighting fixtures with these features built integrally were introduced in the late 1950s.
