This pole is about 50 feet inward from the aforementioned "pipe pole" as you head down Joe's driveway. The upper crossarm carries the low voltage for the street light circuits. The lower crossarm and pins are functional as well. They carry the phone line circuit way out into his backyard to an antique call box which has a receptacle for a modern 1A2 (six button) Western Electric phone set. With this, there is capability of two-way intercom ringing with the house; a lighted phone-button circuits for "in-use" and taps from his answering machine which allow him to screen calls using the last button on the key set. And it flashes brightly when a message is waiting! All of this is done over eight individual open-wire pairs from the house to the call box receptacle (he plugs in the 25-pair 1A2 phone out there when he is working in the back yard). Oh yes, among this is a pair that pipes from his stereo which fills his backyard with music. All done over open-wire as you will see in the (snowy!) pix. |
