I stepped out my back door an hour ago (3:30 AM EST on 01/23/05) and with 40-60 MPH winds sandblasting snow in my in face here is a photo of one of my suspension streetlights (circa 1920s) taking a walloping and being bombarded with heavy snow while it was swaying in the very strong wind. It is suspended over my driveway, all in its original form. The spots you see in the photo are snow and not anything stuck to the camera lens! Boy, these old streetlights must have looked incredible in service at night during New England snowstorms of the past! I rescued this 1920s suspension-wire streetlight in 1982 from the dumpster while working for the Hingham (MA) Municipal Light Plant. This is the very best I could ever imagine seeing during an old-time blizzard scene with a vintage street light above!

If you have any interest in old-time street lighting or any of their accessories (lamps, photo controls, literature, etc). please refer to my Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/vintage_streetlights

We have nearly 70 members and vintage street lighting has been enthusiastically discussed along with lots of Q&A, photos, etc., for nearly two years within our group. Thank you.

Sincerely,
