This was built in 1908 in competition with a group favoring a municipally-owned plant; it was the largest hydro plant in eastern SD; growing demand caused the hydro part to be abandoned and replaced with a steam plant (which had recently been torn down when I took this picture). This was later renovated into a cafe overlooking the nearby waterfall.
