Commemoratives and Miniatures
The 2007 Mid-Ohio Show Commemorative is a miniature CD 317. The scale is approximately one-half size of the real thing. The color remains a mystery at this time. The Wilkerson’s are trying several exciting glass mixes to achieve something that will really be eye catching.
In addition to the show commemorative, the Wilkerson’s will be producing their miniature CD 133.4 during the show. There will be at least four demonstrations of glass making on Saturday, 3 November. Depending on weather conditions, they will most probably give two demonstrations on Sunday, 4 November.
Richard Wentzel is bringing the original molds for the “Wentzel-Cobb” miniatures. These are rather complex molds and they have never been used for production in this kind of glass-making environment. The Wilkerson’s have agreed to give it a try during the show while all watch.
Collecting of miniature replicas and miniature commemoratives may not appeal to all in our hobby. However, we view these miniatures as representing a low-cost means of offering mementos of the show without infringing on the integrity of the hobby. There should be no mistaking these miniatures for bona-fide insulators. Not only are these items made to approximately half-scale, they are appropriately marked in such a way that they cannot be mistaken for an imitation, or reproduction, of any existing insulator.
