Porcelain Insulators: Guide Book for Collectors (Third Edition)by Jack H. Tod160 pages, 8 1/2" x 11", soft bound (1988)
Reprinted by Elton Gish |
This is the key reference on Porcelain Unipart pin types. It introduces the U (Unipart) numbering system which was developed by Jack Tod. The U-styles are represented with scale drawings that show both the profile of the insulator, as well as the internal features (threading, inner skirts, glaze-welds, etc.). There are about 990 different U-styles identified.
In addition to the U-number descriptions, there is an extensive history of the development of porcelain insulators including how they are made, special designs, and other key information. There is a detailed section on marking and colors, as well as history and other information on most known North American insulator manufacturers. There are ten appendices which include additional information on patents, Fred Locke's markings, a glossary, and other special information.
This is a "must have" reference book for any one with any interest in porcelain insulators! See the Value Guide for Unipart and Multipart Porcelain Insulators for current values of unipart porcelain insulators as well as scale drawings for 86 new U-number styles and a complete listing of known unipart porcelain insulators and their markings and colors. Multipart porcelain insulators (M-number system) are described in the book, Multipart Porcelain Insulators.
See the Value Guide for Unipart and Multipart Porcelain Insulators for current values of multipart porcelain insulators as well as a complete listing of known multipart insulators and their markings and colors.
