Here is a picture of a prototype display case that I've been working on for a couple of months. This one is 7' tall by 7' wide and comfortably holds 216 insulators. It has 10 - 20 watt halogens for underlighting on the top shelf, 22 - 4' fluorescent bulbs and 8 - 2' fluorescent bulbs, all for backlighting. Instead of glass shelving, 1/2" thick acrylic shelves were used for clarity, cost and safety. The edges were polished, and they're just as strong as glass shelving would be. The crown molding and trim is made from cherry, while the casework is natural maple. I make my living from high end custom millwork, and I intend to offer these for sale to the hobby - bringing display cases to a new level. As such, I need input from other collectors - negative or positive - for ways to improve upon my design. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks for looking!
