I grew up in the forementioned city and there were only two of this particular type of gooseneck street light fixture remaining for miles around. One (the other!) fortunately was right in front of the house I lived in between 1963 and 1967 which was right up the street! The one in the photo dates back to the mid to later 1910s and was made nearby by the Wheeler Reflector Company in Hanson, MA. This fixture was within the last series street lighting loop in Brockton and I fondly remember most of the 50-plus lights that were connected to it. They were replaced by modern luminaires during 1966-67 and were along nearby streets. These were of numerous similar types made through the 1950s; the version you see here was the oldest. These operated via low voltage incandescent filaments that were short and rather thick. Their light was intrinsic, concise, bright and truly beautiful, especially when there was snow around at night!!
