Troy Evans Memorial Service with Insulators in church 10-20-2022

I first met Troy at the Montana Regional show in 2019. I was on the hunt for a purple HG CO signal. On my first walk around the show hall I spotted three of them on the same sales table. I knew the price was reasonable because I had been watching them on ICON for some time. Then this guy with a big smile and a cow boy hat appeared from behind the table. He was very friendly and very happy. He told me that at one time he had 17 shades of purple in that insulator. I think that HG CO is a beautiful purple, but I could not imagine buying it 17 times.

After Montana I ran into Troy at several shows / Arizona tailgaters. I did not know Troy well, but it was always fun to talk to him. He was always smiling and happy, I wondered what would give someone joy enough to smile so much. He made me feel like I was one of his best friends whenever he saw me and his smile was contagious. I learned that he was a retired teacher. In another meeting with him, I found out he taught "shop". I also love wood-working and shop when I was in high school.

I was going to call Troy and ask if he would ride with me to the 2022 Rohde show, but learned of his passing from an ICON post.

I attended Troy's memorial service on 10-20-22 to honor his memory and learn more about this amazing happy guy; that everyone seemed to like. I learned that he was a Christian man, active in his church; a husband, father and grampa. He was a teacher both formally and also with his children. I learned he was an amazing craftsman in wood, could fix just about anything and he restored two old Chevrolet Belaire cars. They looked like they just rolled off the sales room floor. The "before" picture showed one of the cars with Troy in it, rusty and partly dismantled, proof that Troy did the work.

Troy loved people, teaching, working with his hands and insulators. This is the first time I ever saw insulators at a memorial service.

I wish I could have known Troy better, and longer; but I am grateful for the relationship that I did have with him, even if it was too short. It sounds like Troy had his priorities straight: Jesus – family – people – insulators – all other stuff.
