1890s era telephone line pole top that once served busy and prosperous mines near Leadville, Colorado. This pole was at 11,400 feet, just at the tree line. Very few artifacts remain from this early communication line.

The glass insulators are of the original styles found along the line but not found on the line. Mike Spadafora and I discovered broken CD 134 Brookfield CREB, CD 145 Brookfield CREB and HGCo Petticoat in blue ice colors, and CD 121 American Telephone & Telegraph tolls. Iron telephone line wire still runs through the center of pine trees, along the ground, and tied in large loops in many places.

Thanks to Mike for carrying this artifact out! It was quite light but we had a hike back to the road with it!
