Whirly Gig One has not weathered the extremely high SE Michigan winds today. I recorded a high wind gust of 92 mph on my anemometer. High winds and corn fields are a recipe for disaster. Big rigs are flipping over and electric lines are falling around the midwest today.
I failed to design WG1 for that speed. The fatigued landing gear vibrated off this morning. The propeller and engine mount fell off later in the day. It will glide thro the night with a nearly full moon. It will be out of service for a rebuild until later notice.
