Here I am the other day rather proudly holding one of *many* vintage street lights from my collection. This fixture was made by General Electric in the late 1950s. Like the quickly disappearing openwire and their insulators in the wild, street lights manufactured 20 or more years ago across the continent are rapidly being changed to LED luminaires. My longtime passion for old street lights is pararell to my insulator collecting career and enthusiasm. There are at least 300 similar streetlighting hobbiests across the US judging from the vintage street lighting group I formed within Yahoo Groups in 2003. If you have any interest in old timey street lamps and their accessories, check out my website at: www.vintagestreetlights.com. (it is entirely of educational nature).
