I just acquired this Hemingray made two piece clamp type cleat spool. The glass is a beautiful purple opalescent milk glass color. The Bracket is marked AUG. 18. 1887. After speaking with a few collectors on Facebook it seems there may be a handful of various sizes and colors these spools have been found in. Some have been dug in the Hemingray dump in Muncie. Lou Hall shared with us a Fletcher catalog page showing different types and sizes of wire holder spools and brackets like this one with the option of porcelain or opalescent glass insulators. Mine is one of the larger types offered with a OD of 2" and ID of 3/4". Too bad no CD 145's or CD 162's have showed up in this purple opalescent color. Maybe one day? Many thanks to Elton Gish for finding the patent date error and the link to the Patent... http://reference.insulators.info/patents/detail/?patent=U368284 The correct date of the patent is August 16, 1887 so it's marked wrong on the clamp!
