Mazie, the famous insulator sniffing hound has been side lined from insulator hunts by her trainer (the equally famous ice skater "Caitlin") for an intensive sled training program. "Insulators are ok, but insulator collectors are kind of nerdy" says the 15 year old trainer. Caitlin believes that her dachshund who is smart enough to sniff out buried insulators can easily be trained to lead a whole team of dachshunds to pull her sled to victory in IDITAROD 2003. And dachshunds, who are of German stock, are just stubborn enough to stick it out when lesser dogs may give up. Currently, Caitlin is rehearsing her victory speech for the finish line at Nome.
