I didn't have time to generate as many color examples as Bill's model... but the premise is the same:

User can upload any insulator picture, or select an insulator silhouette from the online price guide.

Pictures are converted to a B/W (or green) .PNG

User clicks on a color in the above picture, or from a color palette or RGB sliders, and the photo they uploaded is rendered in that color (hue/saturation/etc). This would be nice for an online price guide, for example. It might also be helpful to determine an insulator's true color name, with a little help from the computer. Colors could be formally named by consensus.

Color depth (color choices via RGB color model) could be nearly infinite, depending on the color bit depth. For example, a 4K monitor with 48 bit depth would allow a user a choice of 280 Trillion colors--which I'm pretty sure would match any insulator color out there! File size or type can vary...

Rather than render only certain CD styles in a color palette, any CD could be rendered in any color... it's a bit like touching up an insulator color in Photoshop.

Now, try rendering two-tone, or three-tone, or amber swirls inside aqua glass ;)
