A cut through The Compound

I'm not sure when they made this massive cut (running through the Burger Compound) but I believe the Northern Pacific RR made it as part of a spur to their dynomite factory about a mile west. It was cut through granite and basalt (a lot of work) but they never laid rails. It's my thought that the automobile (truck) was used about 1915 or so and was an easier way to go.
