While turning around near one of the recently denuded poles along the old 69kV line west of town, I spotted this broken crown and grabbed it - I figured that if I can remove the rest of the mud, I may have an interesting paperweight, then I noticed the condition of the cracks - they sure look a lot like the "cement expansion" cracks seen on certain early classic styles. Could this have been a similar troublesome style or is it more likely that it was stressed badly during a windstorm or earlier ice storm?
