The following is a series of pictures I took this morning showing the old Point Du Bois line into Winnipeg. This line was built in 1902-6 and was the first transmission line into Winnipeg. It was built by the then newly formed City Hydro which later became Winnipeg Hydro which was sold to Manitoba Hydro in 2002. Almost all of the towers and most of the insulators are from the original construction. This well built line probably would have lasted another hundred years, but is currently being scrapped. There are about 680 towers on this line covering a distance of 130 km from Point Du Bois generating plant to Winnipeg. When I took these pictures, the wires had already been removed from the generating plant to about 30 towers out from the terminal station near downtown Winnipeg. I wish I had taken more pictures of this line when I was last up north. Most towers are the type shown in this picture or the flat ones shown in a later picture, but there was also many very unique ones.
