Here is a comparison of a melted platter I have which was made by my grandfather, William, and my Uncle Don McLaughlin in the late 50's. The bottle neck of this piece and the bottle neck of Colin Jung's new find seem to be a cork type, which they stopped producing around 1929 with the introduction of the Crown Cap. However, it was probably just melted down from an original Crown Top of the late 50's. The melting would give it this older Cork-type look.
