This wooden bridge built by the Richmond, Fredericksburg, & Potomac Railroad is nearly 100 years old. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed this bridge to the public in 2004. Recently, it has been the topic of heated debate between VDOT and current railroad owners CSX. The debate is over who exactly owns the bridge and will be responsible for taking it down. It will be sad to see this unique piece of history disappear.
Follow this group of pictures as we take a walk across this old bridge. This is view as you approach the abandoned bridge.
Update 2016: I've learned that this bridge was finally removed in 2014. At this time there are no plans to construct a new bridge over the CSX tracks at this location.
