With all the talk I created with the recent boston Bottle CD 158.9 find per say, locally. I took a picture of a pin that had a large base size of 1 3/8" diameter that went into the crossarm. I never held or seen a Boston 158.9 upclose to measure the top threads and wonder just what size the smallest part of the screw is on the CD 158.9. I speculate that the CD 158.9 was used under the crossarm, but I'm no expert on them...Just what the lineman said that he found them under the crossarms screwed into the bottoms. Maybe pins were a variety of sizes you wanted to order to fit the crossarms.

After playing with it with a few insulators I've found that the wood may have shrunk about 1/16" or more as a insulator screws onto it too loose and old wood does shrink from what it was when new. Maybe the hole was slightly larger that 1 3/8" I.D. then for the pin the fit snug.
