2010, my [id=328564787;suspension tree sculpture] was finally completed. Next up was what to do with the hundred or so multipart's that had been dragged home over the years, now re-discovered in the back of the shed.

Mostly big and clunky common OB's in brown with a few white and gray ones mixed in they have very little going for them. Most, if not all should have been left in the dumpster and gone for landfill. But they were free and I was there and you know how the rest of the story goes. Insulators of many different sizes were used. The smaller ones, often with colourful glazes went near the top of the tree. These came from flea markets, yard sales and the occasional one from a show.

Over one hundred pins welded to twelve T fence stakes mounted on an old eleven foot metal light pole completes the frame. The pins were cut to seven inches and welded at a slight outward angle. The cable groove on each insulator is aligned and in a moderate rain create a cascading mini- waterfall . Should I desire to change the view, the frame is balanced on a large bearing allowing the whole unit to rotate .

A simple design, construction was easy to fabricate. It is now home to all the multi's that I have. An inexpensive collection displayed on an even less expensive structure. The majority of insulators and all the metal was scrounged from dumpsters. What more can you ask for.

I can't say if I made these tired old multipart's look good, but at least I can get my truck a little further into the shed this winter. My goal now is to come up with some sort of an idea of how to make two hundred modern black and white cable-top Unipart's look good . If I succeed I might just be able to close the garage door next year.

I'm pleased to add that this article was printed in Crown Jewels last year as well as the cover for the 2012 Directory.

At Springfield Pat Scott informed me that not all of these are multiparts. Several are uniparts, which to the uneducated (me) appear the same. Thanks Pat.
