I got an email from a person about this piece. The interesting part is that it talks about two dog heads on the "plate" -- makes me think this is some sort of promo item? Anyway, if you have any thoughts, email me and I will pass them along to her. This is the description:

I have been attempting to identify this well, not sure what it really is for quite awhile. I have looked thru books, checked websites, and I am still not able to figure out what it is. I was told when I bought it that it had something to do with smoking pipes. Then when I got interested in insulators I thought it was an insulator stuck on to a plate. I haven't seen any insulators shaped like it so I am not sure?? Maybe you can give me some help. It has markings on the base of what appears to be an insulator. one side says pat pending and the other side has a round circle with a triangle in it, underneath that are the numbers 3700M. It's hard to tell in the picture but there is a hole running 1 inch in diameter thru it . It's about 1 1/2 inches across at he base and about 3 inches tall. If you can tell me what this is I would appreciate it. The base it's sitting on seems to fit it perfectly and it has felt on the bottom so I can not tell how it is attached. There are 2 dog heads, Scotties, on the plate.
Answer: We feel that this is a regular dead end insulator and some sort of plate made into a "craft" project, and thus of no significance to the insulator collector.
