On Sunday, August 28th Tropical Storm Irene came barreling through New England causing widespread power outages throughout the six-state region and well beyond. Here are a couple power company crews lifting a badly damaged pole here in southeastern Massachusetts. Top winds locally were about 55 mph. Most of the privately-owned utilities still have major portions of their systems in the dark (as of Tuesday evening, 8-30-11) and full restoration may not occur until this weekend. Manpower has been spread thin on account of the fact that importing crews from nearby states has been nearly impossible since those regions were affected as well.
