In looking where to post this picture, I had several options.

Help, questions and answers, but look at the numbers, 1900 questions and only 531 answers Then there was the porcelain section, and there was the foreign. insulators section.

I'm an optimist, so I went with Help, Questions and answers. Let's see if we can improve the stats.

I collect Australian porcelain, and I have a special interest in Bullers [England] made porcelain. Here are all the questions.

1) In the shorty style on the left, a] what are the earliest known dated pieces? b) did Bullers make any in this shorty style for use in Australia?

2) What are the earliest known dated insulators in the taller style 2nd and 3rd from the left?

3) What are the earliest known and dated Bullers made insulators in style of 2nd from right? This one is dated 1950.

4) I'm unable to read the date on the Brown Bullers marked insulator Can anyone suggest an approx date of mfg.? My thinking is 1900-1910

5) can anyone advise if the brown Bullers Cordeaux style was also made in Bullers cream white colour with or without the extended skirt for use in Australia .? If yes, what dates are known.

Please respond to ICON, as there are many other Australian and Bullers enthusiasts out there, and thanks in advance for your help / answers.

I received the following response to all my questions from Chris Ronayne in NSW Australia. Thank you Chris.

I am able to provide answers to your questions on ICON.

1- This style is known as the U-1148. There is also a U-1145 which is the same size, although a bit chubbier and with a wider wire groove. When were they first made; I can't really answer that, and my collection has been temporarily packed away. To my knowledge, Bullers never made either of these. Examples of companies that made them are Shofu (Japanese), R.F. Ltd (Aussie), KP (Koster Potteries, Aussie), FB (Fire Brick, Aussie) and MB (not sure what that stands for, Japanese). These can also be found with the marking "Z" in a circle, with "Made in Japan" beneath.

2- This style (U-1154,56 & 58) was first made by Robert Fowler Limited (R.F. Ltd) around 1938.

3- 1950 is probably the earliest date you'll find on these Bullers examples.

4- My thinking is probably about 1890-1920 for this, considering that it appears to be stoneware. Is the inner shed longer than the outer shed? The change over from longer inner shed to shorter inner shed occured around 1942 or 43.

5- Yes, cream Bullers cordeaux insulators were used in Australia. To my knowledge, they were from around 1900-1910. I think they generally had the longer inner shed.

I hope this helps.

Chris
