Photo taken shortly after the dam broke - the city sent a diving team into the water to find out if the generators were salvageable and learned that they were still bolted to huge chunks of concrete; apparently the city decided against any salvage or repair operations despite initial interest. The city was without power from late September until early November when the new line was extended north from Dayton Hollow. The site remains pretty as much as it was following that fateful morning. The two owners of the then-new Otter Tail Power Co. dam were alerted to the city dam failure and they raced down to their dam to take steps to alleviate any damage - they dropped the reservoir enough to handle the surge and had people stationed to handle the debris that would be washed downstream; fortunately the dam held.
