Vi Brown, Jeanne Bridges, and Joe Bridges

-----------------------------------------------------------

Dec. 5, 1926 - June 25, 2013 Joseph Dale Bridges, 86, died June 25, 2013, in Paradise, Calif. He will be laid to rest in Joseph, Oregon with no service, as per his request. Joe was born in Pershing, Iowa, Dec. 5, 1926, and raised in San Diego, Calif. He entered the U.S. Navy underage to fight in World War II at Iwo Jima and other battles. He was a career electrical utility worker, lineman and foreman. He was an avid gardener, known for his tomatoes, and also collected antique bottles and insulators. Undaunted by heart disease, diabetes, blindness and leg amputations, he demonstrated the true meaning of courage and strength. He was described by family members as an honest, direct, tough-minded and good man, loving to family and friends, unassuming and fiercely determined. Joe and his wife Jeanne retired to Joseph where Wallowa County became the final, happiest time of their life together for 23 years. Joe is survived by his wife, Jeanne; brothers Harold, Bob and Jerry; son David; daughter Donna; stepson Dennis; adoptees Susie and Tim; grandchildren James, Joseph, Shelley, Amanda and adopted grandchildren Wayne and Andrew; plus great-grandchildren and extended family members. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Diabetes Association in Joe?s honor are appreciated.
