On a neat, misty morning, I spotted this abandoned lead heading off to parts unknown. This was the only time I saw CD 490 Bells in service while in Oz. I had always wondered how the CD 430 and 490 were typically used and thought I'd share this discovery with you all. The "gooseneck" brackets have cast lead threads for the glass, while the other end just screws into the side of the pole with lag-type threading.
