A test run of a newly acquired streetcar in 1949 on the Portland Traction Co. Portland to Oregon City interurban trolley line. Newly repainted red and cream, car 4011 was just put in service and is a former Oakland CA. car belonging to the railfan group Bay Area Electric Railway Assn. It was leased by the group for service on the line for $1.00 a year! They have stopped near Concord station and are inspecting the car. Offficials of the company and the rail group are standing out of the car, hopefully it didn't break down!

The PGE power line along the track is the first one I ever saw and likely the reason I am the nut case that I am today. I was an 8 year old brat that lived nearby! The poles date back to the 1910 era and the multipart line was 57kV and constructed on the existing poles in 1921. The 11 kV line on glass Provo 2's was moved to a lower level. The 2400 volt distribution is on the really short crossarms as viewed on the closest pole!

Everything in this photo except the land and the trees is gone today. The rail route is now a hike/bike trail, with a new power line. The streetcar 4011 is back at the Bay Area WRM museum and fully restored in its original form. Nice to know that something survived besides me !
