Here is a diagram of how a Diamond Bridle Wire Dry Spot Insulator was used on a termination point I personally saw in use in 1970. It was located on the East side of Loveland Pass, Colorado. The location was near Loveland Pass, Colorado and may have been installed at this location to use a buried cable to negotiate the crossing of the pass due to the harsh weather conditions that caused problems to the open wire line.

The diagram shows only one insulator in use, however there most likely was two insulators originally and one may have been broken off. I only saw the one on one of the lines that went into the feeder pipe that carried the lines underground.

The insulator was installed about one foot from the pin type insulator and was free standing and not attached to a bracket of any kind. The cap was soldered to the open wire and an insulated wire projected from the bottom of the cone where it continued to the feeder pipe and then on to an underground buried cable.

The line was probably buried to negotiate the crossing of the pass due to the extreme harsh weather conditions which would be experienced by an open wire line.
