This single lonely pole somehow remains standing after decades of war in Afghanistan. The rest of the line is simply gone. It appears to be something the Soviets put up after their invasion in 1979. The pole is steel and well peppered with small arms fire. Remarkably, all the insulators appear to be intact. Army Special Ops guard the site and were somewhat amused with my request to go inside for a closer look the day after I took this photo.
